Elin Bjarnegård is a Professor in Political Science at the Department Government at Uppsala University. In 2020-2021, she was a Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences, where she worked on a book about gender politics in authoritarian states.

Her research focuses on gender, masculinities, informal institutions, political parties and conflict. She is the author of thebook Gender, Informal Institutions and Political Recruitment: Explaining Male Dominance in Parliamentary Representation(Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) and editor (with Meryl Kenny) of Gendering Party Politics (Oxford University Press, 2026).

Her research contributing to feminist institutionalism has been published in journals such as Government & Opposition, Party Politics, Comparative Politics and Politics &Gender. Bjarnegård is one of the series editors of the new Oxford University Press book series on Feminist Institutionalist Perspectives and was the one of the editors of the Rowman & Littlefieldminiseries with the same name.
