Debora Thome

Debora Thome is a political scientist, writer, and feminist activist from Brazil, currently undertaking post-doctoral research at Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV) in Sao Paulo (Brazil), with a PhD in Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil). Her research centers on candidate recruitment and representation, political ambition, and gender bias in institutions. She has previously been a visiting scholar at Columbia University and is presently a professor at the Columbia Women’s Leadership Network. After a successful 15-year career in journalism, since 2014, she has been involved with advocacy, training, and research on women and leadership. Thome has trained more than 600 women candidates across several cities in Brazil and worked as a consultant for UN Women. She has authored several books aimed at both children and adults which tackle issues related to gender and politics. Additionally, she is one of the coordinators of a four-year research study investigating candidate support initiatives and their work with under-represented groups.
